A micro microSD card adaptor was put on the market by BUFFALO KOKUYO SUPPLY INC. This product bulges only several mm from PC body. I succeeded booting Puppy by this one. I used SDHC card (4GB,Class6) of the SiliconPower Co.. However, it usually recognized as USB thumb drive.

Even if HP2133 mini starts installing Puppy, HDD is not recognized. (HDD seems to have stopped when the operation sound is heard). I tried variously, and solved by the mode change of HDD.
I made 15GB area of Puppy with Gparted and installed(Linux swap is 2GB).
If Puppy was not installed in HDD, it was possible to install in the SD card(Naturally, BIOS is no necessary to change).
Supplementation: Installed Puppy is 4.1.1jp. It is possible also by 3.0.1jp.
In HP2133, the best screen resolution of Puppy is 1280x768. The Video setting chooses Xvesa after Xorg is chosen once and it starts, and changes to 1280x800. Afterwards, change again in 1280x768.
WEP doesn't go well to the setting of wireless LAN. WPA has not been tried yet(Cable LAN is possible).
It will be easy for the mouse to treat because the track pad of HP2133 has a strange handling.

I did a little strange installation. This PC has no external universal serial bus port, and FDD and CDROM are external PC card connections.
Then, I installed puppy in the 2GB SD card first. HDD on the other side of the main body is detached, and replaced to IDE-CF adaptor and CF-SD card adaptor. The format is FAT, and MBR(I forgot...). The sound has not been emitted yet.
PC card FEther PCC-TXF(COREGA) can be used. USB and PS2 can be used with the port replicater of the option.

I was able to start Puppy from USB thumb drive for the rescue when PC(WindowsXP) do not start.
As X server Xorg didn't start, I set to Xvesa.
The CUPS print setting of Canon IP-4100(USB connection) was able to be set well.
However, the number of "HOME" short cut icons of USB thumb drive increases one by one whenever starting.

As this PC has no USB and was also difficult CD-ROM boot, I replaced with the HDD socket of PC not used and installed. (I tried with KXL810AN and attachment PC card, but it was useless).
At first, I tried with TOSHIBA-BREZZA5133DA, but this PC did not boot from CDROM either, I gave it up. Next, after replaced a HDD of FUJITSU-BIBLONB50G which the liquid crystal display did not reflect, and connected an external display, then Puppy could be installed. It was able to be started by the installation's going well, and putting HDD in AL-N4.
Left problems are the following two points. "The sound is not emitted" and "Wireless LAN card (BUFFALO WLI-CB-G54) cannot be used". Other sounds are not heard though the noise burst is emitted from the speaker. I want to mend this while scratching for information in the future.
Operation is not light though it is lighter than Debian that net-installed before. Because PC patronized on the business trip before was able to be revived, it was good for the time being.

It connects by wireless LAN(WEP) and recognized automatically. "ES1968" was detected with ALSA WIZARD, and it sound, but didn't sound after reboot.
When reboot, the sound came to be emitted when snd_es968 was chosen from the menu "Add new modules". However, wireless LAN was not connected. Commented out ADDLIST which the last line of etc/rc.d/MODULESCONFIG, and both sound and wireless LAN was operated.

Puppy run lighter than windows98 of default.
When wine1.17 was installed to use the program of win98, operation had become cranky, so I reinstalled. This time, not FULL but fligal installation. The sound device did not recognize automatically, and added snd_es1968 by hand power as usual.
Moreover, the network was not able to be connected automatically. Added the following lines to /etc/rc.d/rc.local, it came to be able to connect automatic operation with stability.

Saying "Bowwow" when starting, DVD can play with xgine. 17 inch liquid crystal all-in-one design personal computer(1280x1024 screen).
Xorg and Xvesa cannot select "x1024". I started with Xvesa800x600. Afterwards, Menu > Setup > select each video wizard. (Expand and contract according to the change). The belt remains at the top and bottom in 1280x800 (possible 786).
1024x768 is full screen, and when 1024x800, the menu is hidden. (The menu can be displayed by right-clicking).
It doesn't go well though 1280x1024 can choose with Xorg when reboot. Xvesa1280x1024 is full screen.
Default is WindowsXPSP2 when shipping in 2005, ground analog tuner, and DVD+-R/RW/DL/RAM. It doesn't boot with XPSP1. (SP2 is available).

I installed Puppy in Frugal the other day.(To HDD besides the Windows system.) WindowsXP and Pape can be selected by using GRUB. I report using very comfortably.
At present, Puppy is used for the Web-browsing and the blog description, etc.
The resolution was 1024x768x16 when CD boot, but 1440x900x59.9@+ after Frugal installation.

I am a new face elderly person in the forum. I was going to install Puppy in Thinkpad S30. However, I saw the hardware requirement for Puppy, and I had a change of heart, and I clean installed puppy in ancient times note PC of the above-mentioned 1999 years. The spread sheet "gunumeric" is OK, but the word processor "Abiword" doesn't suffice. So I think to try OpenOffice.

I was able to use "Sound Blaster16 PnP" in the following procedures.
1: Insert CREATIVE Sound Blaster16 PnP into ISA.
2: Download devx_412.sfs.
3: Extract, configure and install of isapnptools-1.27(Error occured isapnptools-1.26).
# ./configure --prefix=/usr # make # make install
4: Read setting of ISAPnP card.
# pnpdump > /etc/isapnp.conf
5: Edit correctly "isapnp.conf" file.
6: Execute "alsconf" and load sb16 module.
7: Edit /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit.
Add 1 line "/usr/sbin/isapnp /etc/isapnp.conf" before LOAD KERNEL MODULE section. And also add 1 line "/etc/rc.d/rc.alsa start" at the last of file.

This is a laptop PC(WindowsME) that I bought about ten years ago. It was covering the dust for a long time. I knew Puppy Linux and intended to install it.
I was going to start Puppy from an external CD-ROM, but it stopped to read "pup-4xxx.sfs" file. After copying "pup-412J.sfs" into C:\ by Windows, tried booted from a CD-ROM again and Puppy started safely.
As there was only 128MB RAM, I full-installed in HDD.
The File Sharing with Windows by LAN connection and the Internet connection did not have any problem. I was able to play sound files of i-pod immediately too.
An old PC revives, and it is emotion. Thank you.

Nice to meet you. I knew existence of Puppy in Web and intended to use it and I downloaded 4.1.1 and managed it.
I think that there is much knowing one, but, as for the series of this type of Vaio, it is possible for a CD boot only by an external drive of the PCMCIA connection. Therefore it begins to run once, but it vomit an error not to be able to begin to read an SFS file on the way and cannot start.
As a result of various trial and error, I formatted USB memory (1G) in FAT16 and just copied the contents of the CD and was able to confirm that it started when CD booted with coonecting in the main body.
I can check operations the same start method in three of them mentioned above.
Cable LAN is recognized and connected without a problem in PCC-TXD of Gorega, LD-10/100CDA of Laneed. The wireless LAN connected WLI-PCM-L11G of Buffalo to WEP, but was not connected. As for this as a result of search, type "S:" command before a connection password and was able to connect to the Internet.
The HDD installation carried out a full install only in SR1M. In spite of an old-model CPU, I felt the speed that could realize the lightness of the OS.
I will intend to study LINUX little by little in future. Thanks in advance for your help.

I am Linux super beginner. I intended to confirm a kind and the resolution of the Xserver, but do not understand it how can confirm it either; ... which mentions only for my memory at the time of the installation.
It is an old notebook PC (Windows98SE is installed), but Puppy is comfortable!
About installation. PC has no CD drive, and cannot both CD boot and USB boot. And I take off HDD and connected with a CF-IDE adapter. I tried FD boot with Wakepup, but was not able to install Puppy, because not recognize this CF.
I connect CF to IDE to another desktop PC and install Puppy in CF after CD boot. And connected to ThinkPad 240X and use CF.
It is the impossible feeling that it works on installation with other PCs and to move it from common sense of Windows.
It is splended that Puppy automatically recognize Video, Audio, and also wireless LAN!
However, it is problem outbreak here. In my home's wireless LAN environment, main phone is "La Fonera+" of WiFi community. To this router, two SS-ID called "MyPlace" of the individual use that can set FON_AP and WPA and WEP for the outside exhibitions that do not require security such as WEP is prepared for. FON_AP for this outside exhibitions does not have any problem and can be connected. I cannot be connected even if "MyPlace" of the personal use scans it even if I input SS-ID and a WEP key newly.
I connect to the other PCs from this "MyPlace", I am inconvenient without having File Sharing. Because I did not have any problem with Windows2000, I think that is not to be specifications of wireless LAN card Buffalo WLI-PCM-L11GP. WPA is not usable in an orinoco_cs module, and La Fonera + sets it in WEP again.

This is a sub note book PC of the release for 2002 years. In the state with Win2000 installation, CD-ROM starts and installs Frugal in an HDD and uses by dual boot. (reference : Web man page of puppy. Swap partition made because even a little wanted to let memory connection become it effectively).
Also recognized the built-in wireless LAN, so I inflect in wireless LAN.
But not able to recognize the internal modem. (When searching in Web, which seems not to be recognized in Linux for software modem (=Win modem) as for the modem of this PC). By the way, it recognized junk PCMCIA modem card.
The point that had a hard time just installation.
After trial and error, when makeing partition for puppy with another Linux live CD, before puppy installation, "after restoration in a state of MBR" by "MBR restoration tool"..., then it came to be possible for a boot normally (dual).
It is above-mentioned two points.
I tried KNOPPIX(3.7, 3.9, 5.3.1), Ubuntu(6.10, 7.10), slax-ja to utilize this old notebook PC, but was in condition not to recognize the wireless LAN or slow behavior. But Puppy recognizes by default wireless LAN and quickly run, I'm satisfied very much.

I upgraded it with WindowsXP and used it, I failed in the division of the partition, and the OS did not start.

I downloaded an iso file and I installed Puppy in unetbootin from Windows.
I appoint "acpi=force" in a boot option, and pcmcia and sound are usable.
I can use PC Card WLI-PCM-L11GP of the wireless LAN. However, I appoint it from a "connection" icon every start without the profile that I set being read at the time of start. I can use GW-US54GXS of the USB without a problem.

Other Linux such as DSL, Berry Llinux, and Knoppix was able also to do the CD start. However, it became impossible to install at a stage that was earlier than Puppy.
As WindowsMe doesn't obtain boot FD, started WindowsXP by boot FDs(six FDs). Installed from CD once. In the state, boot from CD via FD booting and use "unetbootin" (found it on the net), Puppy was able to be installed.
I think the dual boot to be acceptable. After having confirmed the start of Puppy, I deleted WindowsXP because I had a bitter experience in the dual boot before. "Puppy PC" of single boot was finally completed by this. When changing to single boot from the dual boot, start screen and menu.lst... variety was changed. But detailed change points are uncertain because I did "Try and Error".
It is the above. I could finally install Puppy by taking a roundabout way. I am living a comfortable Puppy life. I think that it may be useful to someone, and I report.

4.1.2/ 4.1.1 were able to boot from live CD both without trouble.
When full installed 4.1.2 in HDD, X Window doesn't start.
When full installed 4.1.1 in HDD, it started without trouble. Afterwards, X starts without trouble when updating to 4.1.2.
Every time, this phenomenon happens though I tried several times. There might be something?

I can shutdown with the power button by installing acpid-1.0.8-i486.pet.
Installed xorg_xorg_dri-7.3-1.pet, but DRI does not work.
Compare with Windows2000, the animation playback is hard.
I reinstalled Windows2000 after formatting(FAT32) of a built-in HDD.
And Frugal installed Puppy Linux 4.1.2.1JP in it.

Quick on the trigger with IDE adapter(Setagaya denki UNANE) + CD(Silicon Power 4GB 300x). Installing into Epson PX-A650 was not easy, but I reached to B5 both side printing with Firefox-3.0.10.

I changed a HDD from Thinkpad-s30/Win2k+Puppy-4.1x to Thinkpad-i-1200 and could boot Puppy. I easily use Puppy4.2b after created 4.2b directory in /mnt/home and edit menu.1st.
Wireless LAN(WEP) simply works with normal setting only. Starting connection is faster than Windows. I changed settings and could scroll Pointing device.
Printer(Canon550i) and scannner(CanonFB636U) cannot use on Puppy-4.1.2.1-JP. I didn't test on 4.2b-JP. Additionally, there seems to be no big problem.

I was presented Puppy from my friend and installed into HDD. I was surprised it's lightness.
It seems all functions can be used. Detected sound device and he barks Woof woof. Wireless LAN card works but could not recognized AIR EDGE card.I'm in a catch-22 situation.

I succeeded in the start from USB-CD by using Puppy Linux live CD. As I found to use LAN CARD etc. at this stage, I installed Puppy making the space in HDD.
As Built-in LAN adaptor's connector point of contact is transformed and it is not possible to use, I use the PC card. Buffalo LAN CARD LPC4-TX, Wireless LAN can use Buffalo WLI-CB-AGHP. Built-in wireless LAN made of ORINOCO terminal works without trouble. Both are connected with the WEP key in wireless LAN terminal.
The purpose of this PC is mail processing when making a business trip. Therefore, I want to be able to use the following hardware in the future.

When Frugal installing, I was puzzled over the setting of the grub boot loader, but I was able to smoothen the setting except it. I installed WinXP in this PC before. However, performance of OOo and internet was very fast, and puppy became more comfortable.
I feel have a long life of the battery.
The wireless LAN had a hard time without being connected to the main phone by WEP well.

My PC is Dual boot of Win2k and Puppy(Frugal install). Behavior is OK.
I use liquid crystal TV as a monitor. And nothing is displayed by a screen till X window appears in 640x480(A common PC monitor is displayed without a problem).
Also nothing is displayed to a screen in the grub boot loader. I know Win2000 boots up with an Enter key, and Puppy boots after down arrow key with an Enter key, I do not have any problem.
When Frugal installing of Puppy, I connected with a PC monitor and set a keyboard and the monitor. (I remember that I seem to have set it while I change connection from liquid crystal TV and a PC monitor).
I had a hard time, but hardly remember a setting method at all. Therefore I hesitate about a shift to 4.1.2.1.

Puppy3.01 operated, too. I could connect to the internet by LAN PC which dialup connected with Win2k.
I full installed Puppy in HDD.
After the end of WinMe support, I upgraded to Win2000. However, I was embarrassed because HDD was able to use only the half and feeling that behavour is late. When Puppy is installed, I am surprised it's lightness.
Desktop design of 4.2 is very cool and became my favorite. I'm a Linux newbie and I want to learn more in the future.

Puppy reached to a X desktop screen though there was a thing somewhat limping in the CD start. A universal installer doesn't start why.
Edit: Because an optical drive etc...(capacitor?) is old, it doesn't operate well until PC get warm. Universal installer started after it had gotten warm. Now I use Puppy full installed in HDD.

Puppy starts from CD without trouble. As NumLk, CapsLk, and ScrLk enter by the automatic operation, it is necessary to release a pure USB keyboard manually. Other LINUX distributions have occurred to this phenomenon.

Puppy works without trouble after installing, though I worried about because a little memory. Built-in LAN I/F was recognized. SeaMonkey can be used. The installation of samba succeeds, too. I start Puppy from live-CD, and am using it as individual LAN server (Installed WinXP/Win2000 server PC). I use the FMV monitor (life the remainder) over ten or more years previous. Therefore, I think that the alert message and drawing when starting are slow. However, Puppy can be used enough.

Time from "Booting the Kernel" to "Loading kernel drivers" is abnormally long, and it takes about five minutes. It is comparatively short at time when waiting time is long. When starting, it feels pressured. Operation is roughly comfortable except this problem.
It becomes impossible to load large PET (Samba etc.) because the installing memory decreased however.

Reporting in the old Puppy version, this PC was a problematic model of setting up the BIOS frieze when booting it. However, I updated obtaining BIOS informality (?) from the manufacturer support and did not freeze.
When starting, Puppy loads various information from configuration file (pup_save.2fs). However, only VGA inquires "XServer selection + screen resolution" at every start at this time. Various states of the PET installation and the network information, etc. are recorded and have been restored normally. VGA alone doesn't restore the setting even if it preserves when ending even if the compulsion preservation is done.
In my intuition, The re-setting is demanded mis-recognizing that VGA information was changed by the check when starting though VGA information is preserved in pup_save.2fs, ...I think.

I post for the first time. Frugal-installed to 160GB hard disk (multi boot of Win-XPpro and Ubuntu). Now using 4.20p1-jp. Wireless LAN was recognized by all the above versions, and it hardly had a hard time. Operation is light and comfortable. I was astonishing that DVD was able to watch without a special setting. I had a hard time a little to use USB connected English keyboard (The tilde cannot be input). However, I deal by using the "setuskbd" file for Startup on 4.20p1. Contents is [ xmodmap -e "Keycode 49 = grave asciitilde" ].
As 4.20p1 has Japanese input method scim-anthy, it's a welcome. (I use the ATOK key bind. I'm not accustomed to canna).
I insalled the IPA (INFORMATION-TECHNOLOGY PROMOTION AGENCY) font to use "Mincho-type" fonts. In version.002.03, the display with web browser and the text editor became strange. (The hankaku-alphanumeric character is displayed in the space of the width of em-size, the zenkaku-Chinese character takes the space twice, It feels stupid). It is no problem in IPA font ver. 001.00 of the old edition, but I want to use a new version. Latest IPAfont ver.003 is unverified.

I booted 4.20p1jp from CD, but it took about five seconds until one window was displayed first. It didn't become practical use. I tried "4.1.2.1", referring to "ko2"s operation report No.256. This is an English keyboard model. Japanese versions are tried by installing them in each 1GB SD-Card (frugal-install). 4.2.1 is tried by the CD boot.

4.20p1-jp cut the partition and did frugal-install to HDD. The start of Windows Vista Business of this PC standard equipment is very slow. It takes 2 or 3 minutes to the start end. Moreover, it takes time to do the start end by "Installation of the update". Puppy Linux starts with about 60sec.

Increased memory to 512MB(The catalog specs : up to 256MB), and replaced HDD to 8GB-SSD.
USB connection's wireless LAN doesn't operate well.
Because cable LAN can be used, it seems to be competent in SSH + RDP connection for the time being at the hotel in the business trip destination.
Using rdesktop1.6.0 pet on WEB (Japanese input is just OK on RDP).
I installed OpenOffice, but Japanese input cannot be done and abandoned it.

In my PC, mouse is not stable and no sound by all Linux OS. Then, I use VMware on WindowsXP and Linux. Well, only the Puppy series 214X has VM video driver, and animation moves smoothly. This time, I made "Vm214X9-RC4-JP" (690MB) from 214X-JP(Nikukyu made) and YoN's advice. I keep it by compressing. It is very glad if the VMware fan is useful.

Note: Puppy did not detect wireless LAN interface, so I think that my PC perhaps has no wireless interface. I do not understand an accurate point because Windows has not been executed, and there is not wireless LAN environment near myself either.
1: Shutdown with the power supply button - OK, no broblem.
2: Suspend by LCD open/close
Suspend ON by shutting - OK
Suspend OFF by opening - NG (is this a spec?)
3: Suspend OFF with the power supply button - The drive turns momentarily and sleep at the next moment when the screen was displayed. Push power supply button again - return.
Suspend while executing aqualung, the sound is not emitted after it returns. It keeps replaying quickly abnormal(it looks like).After suspend returns, the screen brightness by Fn+F5 and F6 cannot be adjusted. However, it recovers by Xserver restart.
Blue LED that shows a wireless interface after turning on the power supply keeps lighting.
If Gxine is started, the screen brightness becomes the highest.
When using 4.1.2-JP, it crashes by 100% when the sidebar open/shut while Firefox 3.5.3 is reading animation in my PC.4.3-JP is OK.
As for me, it is worth updating to 4.3JP of this only one point exists.

I use LINUX after an interval of a lot of years (After Slackware of Run Run LINUX). I first used 4.2 from the magazine CD. I was surprised at the advancement and lightness. I want to use latest version, and full installed 4.3JPalpha. The installer circumference is mainly considerably improved from 4.2 to 4.3alpha.
I can see TV for two days though it had a hard time ..setting of TV. I will up the instruction later.
Puppy is very comfortable. Quicker than Win2k the starts too. I wish to express my gratitude to the author and the translator.

Seamonkey crash accidentally after 5 or 6 minutes when I saw YouTube, though Puppy is basically going smooth. I think that it is memory shortage. It doesn't crash in 4.1.2.1.

Suspend by LCD opening and shutting:
Suspend on with closing LCD is OK.
Suspend off with opening LCD is NG.
The drive rotates momentarily, and it sleeps again at the next moment when the screen was displayed. Though pushed the power supply button reluctantly, it returns to the (3, 4) fifth time At last.
Lightness is not felt in operation by me for the amount equipped with CPU clock and the memory. Is the bus slow by hardware?
